Jesus gave us these words in Matthew 28:19-20: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
This command from our Lord is what catechesis is all about. In becoming a catechist you will undergo training to prepare you to be a teacher and evangelist to your community. It will deepen your faith.
Catechesis is the act of spreading the Word of God to the parish faith community.
So, who is a catechist? - a practicing Catholic
- called to share faith with God’s people
- willing to satisfy the Archdiocesan requirements for working with young people
- able and eager to continue in adult faith formation
